Spring baseball

The following programs will be offered for the Spring:

The following divisions will play all of their games at Glenside Weldon on Saturdays starting in April and ending in June:

Quick Ball - As the first local organization to introduce Quickball, GYAC we will once again be offering this introductory program into baseball and softball for both boys and girls ages 4 through 6. Quickball teaches all diamond skills in a more active, engaging way. Anyone can play and teamwork is emphasized on all levels. Each player gets to try for a single, double, triple, and home run in every game! Scoring also occurs on both offense and defense and anyone can succeed regardless of skill level. Each session will be divided into a weekly skill development portion and then an actual game. Quickball will be played each Saturday at Glenside Weldon. Ages: Quick Ball (4/5/6)

Rookie (formerly T-Ball) – We will have a Rookie league for boy’s age 6 who participated in Quickball or T-Ball in the past. The teams will focus on further developing proper hitting, throwing and fielding skills and start preparing players with a better understanding of the fundamentals and rules of the baseball. Teams will be kept smaller in size to provide as much individual attention as possible. Rookie teams will practice one night per week with a Saturday game. Teams will feature college replica shirts and hats. Ages: Rookies (6/7)

Junior Farm Baseball  – Our Junior Farm division is for boys who are 7 and 8 years of age. The season will include a transition from hitting balls from a pitching machine to coach pitch. While scoring is not kept in this league outs will now be recorded as we transition closer to standard baseball rules and play. Jr. Farm teams will practice one night per week with a Saturday game. Teams will feature minor league replica uniforms. Ages: Jr. Farm (7/8)

Farm Baseball  – Our Farm division is for boys who are 9 and 10 years of age and played on 60 foot bases. The rules are slightly modified from traditional baseball, but players do the pitching and stealing and bunting are allowed. Official umpires are utilized and scoring is kept in Farm with the season culminating in a fun playoff and championship. All Farm teams make the playoffs! Farm teams will practice one night per week with a Saturday game. Teams will feature major league replica uniforms. Ages: Farm (9/10)

Majors Baseball  – Our Majors division is for boys who are 11 and 12 years of age and played on 70 foot bases. Games are played with official Cal Ripken organization rules. The Major’s season will culminate with a playoff and championship in which all teams will qualify for. Major teams will have a practice session during the week with a Saturday game. Ages: Majors (11/12)

ICBBL League  – For players 13-15 we will again be participating in the Inter Community Baseball League which will feature games against other local organizations in the surrounding Glenside area.

ITL League - For players 16-19 we will again be participating in the Inter-Township Baseball League which will feature games against other teams in Montgomery County

Travel Baseball tryouts

Please note a players age is determined by their age as of May 1st, 2019)

All of our teams will compete in the Suburban Travel Baseball League. Indoor Training will begin after January 1st and the season will run from April through mid-June. All players participating in our tryout process will receive a Glenside Baseball T-Shirt.

As in past seasons we will entertain the possibility of forming multiple teams within an age group depending upon the number of players trying out, ability levels and availability of coaches.

Fall baseball

Schedules:

Here is some information about Fall baseball:

Our Fall Programs will begin about the first weekend of September and conclude in most cases by the first weekend in November. Registration will close for our fall programs at the end of August. Please note we did have to turn players away last year due to reaching capacity in some age groups.

For our Fall Programs we will utilize a player’s age as of May 1st, 2019 (or the same age they were for our spring program). Fall teams in each of our divisions will be filled on a first come first serve basis and dependent upon volunteer coaches at each program level. During our fall season we allow players the option to “move-up” to the level they will participate in during our 2019 spring season or “stay back” based upon ability level and comfort in the program they played this spring.

The following programs will be offered for the Fall:

The following divisions will play all of their games at Glenside Weldon on Sundays starting in April and ending in June:

Quick Ball - (ages 4, 5 and optional for 6) – Sessions consisting of 30 minutes of instruction and a 30 minute game.

Junior Farm Baseball  – (ages 6, 7 and optional for 8) – Machine pitch with potential for coach pitch as the year progresses.

Farm Baseball  – (ages 8, 9 and optional for 10) – Each session will consist of a station style practice followed by a kid pitch game of 3 to 4 innings. Played on 46/60 size fields.

Majors Baseball  – (ages 10, 11 and optional for 12) – Games played on 50/70 fields.

Connie Mack  12-13 – (ages 12 and 13) – Saturday and Sunday games played on 60/90 fields. Connie Mack will require travel for most if not all games.

Connie Mach 14-15 - (ages 14 and 15) – Saturday and Sunday games played on 60/90 fields. Connie Mack will require travel for most if not all games.

Other fall ball items:

 - Each participant in our Fall Program will receive a 2017 GYAC Fall Baseball Shirt & Hat.

 - All Quickball, Jr. Farm and Farm games will tentatively be scheduled on Sundays. Some Majors games may be played on Fridays or Saturdays, but the majority should be on Sundays. Connie Mack games are played on both Saturday and Sundays. If Sunday games are rained out we may make-up games on Saturday afternoons.

-As we did in 2018, some fall games in our Jr. Farm, Farm and Majors programs may be played against teams outside of GYAC and could involve minimal travel (5 to 10 minutes).

- Teams will be formed the end of August following the close of registration. The amount of teams we have in the fall will be based upon both our registration numbers along with sufficient volunteer coaches. The more volunteer coaches we have the greater number of teams we can support.

-There are new bat regulations being implemented for the 2018 season for both Little League and Cal Ripken Baseball. Please keep this in mind as many websites are presently offering dramatic discounts on youth baseball bats that will not be eligible for play after January 1st. For a list of approved bats for the 2019 season please see attached link. https://usabat.com/
